Amsterdoom Movie Poster

During Semester 3 at Fontys it was requested of us to make a movie poster. Given my prior experience with the Adobe package, this was a fun challenge to refresh my memory.

Amsterdoom is a dutch game I played all the way back in 2000. The studio that made the game went bankrupt in 2005.
This studio was called Davilex. Even though it may look like it.. No, this is not an official movie planned for release.

On 24 November 2023 Davilex had a day reserved for their legacy at the Beeld en Geluid Museum in Hilversum.
Knowing this, I sneaked into the MakerSpace of Fontys R10 and made prints of my poster as physical media. During the event at Beeld en Geluid, Davilex and their former employees were the guest of honour. I decided to bring my printed posters and randomly give them away to the guests and developers there. People were really happy with my posters. Some of the original developers of the Amsterdoom game even signed my posters.

Besides that, one signed poster even ended up in the very museum itself, as it focussed on preserving dutch media history.

Poster Thumbnails

At the very start of the poster design sketching is your best friend. It is great to get your ideas on paper, digital or even better on physical paper. I sketched 6 thumbnails and had the teachers pick their favourite ones.

Ultimately I settled upon the 4th one as seen in the end result.

Physical Posters

As stated above, 10 of the posters were printed on heavy duty paper and given away at the Davilex Dag. for free.

Attendees really believed they were originals made by Davilex themselves. The developers of the original game even signed my posters. And one signed copy ended up in the Beeld & Geluid Museum.
