Project Hotline Miami

During the last stretch of Semester 2 at Fontys ICT we were tasked to make a video "Documentary".
This sounded too boring to me, so I decided to make this project a true filmmaking portfolio piece.

Firstly the teachers wanted to sort me into groups, I politely decline as I am better on my own.

The project had a low budget and I had to make do with huge limitations, but this did not stop my creativity to work around the limitations.

The theme of my Film project is based on a famous video game of the same name.
This game has amassed a huge following in digital culture. My friends and I already did a cosplay for the characters last summer. Because we still had the costumes, it was just a matter of acting filming.

Viewer's discretion is advised for heavy violence.

Miniature Storyboard

In order to shoot a film, you need to have a plan. This plan comes in shape of a script, that script is then made into a storyboard.

I had a plan. Yet, due to circumstances and my own friends refusing to play actor, I had to make adjustments to the storyboard. By the time we started shooting, I still had a vision based on this storyboard. (Not the actual up to date storyboard.)

Still, If you look closely, some ideas from the original storyboards made it into the final film. The headlight shot, the furnace burning, and the door kick.

Teaser

For if you are too lazy to watch the whole film (for shame). You can watch the trailer I made to showcase the project for the first time here. There are a bunch of differences in the trailer compared to the full film. Most notably, the trailer cuts off at a more hyped timing, and some audio is different.

When I showed this during Media class in semester 2 you would not believe how hyped the audience got.
